Bruins forward CJ Smith makes NCAA DI commitment

The Austin Bruins of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) have announced that forward C.J. Smith,18, has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey at the University of Massachusetts-Lowell.

UMASS-Lowell is a member of the Hockey East Conference and will take part in the NCAA Frozen Four this weekend in Pittsburgh, PA.

Smith will begin his career with the River Hawks in the 2013-14 season. “CJ has stated all along he wanted to head East for his college days and with his commitment to UMASS-LOWELL he will have that chance.” Stated Head Coach, Chris Tok.

Smith, from Des Moines, Iowa has played in 121 games in his Bruins career and has totalled 43 goals and 44 assists.  During the 2012-13 regular season, Smith (5’11/175) was third in team scoring with 59 points (30 goals, 29 assists) in 60 games played.  His 30 goals ranked 6th in the NAHL this season.

This past February, Smith was invited to compete at the 2013 NAHL Top Prospects Tournament in Troy, Michigan as a part of the NAHL 18U Selects Team.  Smith recorded three assists in three games.  Smith also played in the 2012 NAHL Top Prospects Tournament as a part of the NAHL 18U Selects Team.

“CJ's 2nd half of the season has really put him at an elite level and now he can just focus on playing hockey and having fun,” stated Tok.
