Chad Mercier Steps Down As Pontiacs GM / Coach

Press Release

There will be a new head coach behind the bench of the Bonnyville Pontiacs bench when the puck drops on the 2013-14 season.  The Pontiacs hockey club has received the resignation of Chad Mercier who spent the past 7 seasons as the team’s General Manager and Head Coach.

“I would like to thank Chad, and his family, for giving us 7 great years,” said Pontiacs President Don Sydora. “Chad has been a dedicated member of the organization and has definitely brought players, who have come to the team, to a higher level than I think kids expected to get to when they came through the door of the RJ Lalonde Arena.”

Mercier was the AJHL Coach of the Year in 2011 and most recently guided the organization to one of its most successful regular season finishes, placing third in the North Division this past year.

“I have coached Junior now for 15 years and have been very fortunate to have been in three quality organizations including the past 7 years in Bonnyville” said Mercier. “To be able to come back to my home town of Bonnyville and have an opportunity to coach is an absolute privilege.”

“I would personally like to thank all past and present members of the Pontiacs staff and board who have been a part of the organization during my time in Bonnyville” continued Mercier. “Thank you to the many sponsors for their support, the billet families, the players, the volunteers and to everyone involved with the Pontiacs who have helped make my time with the team so memorable.”

The Pontiacs are close to announcing a succession plan for their General Manager and Head Coach positions.
