Phoenix Coyotes General Manager Don Maloney announced on Monday, April 15 that the Coyotes have signed Kitchener Rangers forward Tobias Rieder to a three-year entry-level contract. As per club policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.
A native of Landshut, Germany, Rieder recorded 27 goals and 29 assists in 52 games with the Rangers this season. He added two goals and 10 assists in nine playoff games, tying him for the team lead in postseason points.
Rieder was the Rangers' top scorer in 2011-12, recording 84 points in 60 games and led the OHL in postseason scoring with 13 goals and 14 assists.
The 5-foot-11 forward has represented Germany in three IIHF World Under-20 Hockey Championships, including the 2013 tournament, where he helped secure a place in the top tier for 2014.
Rieder was originally drafted by the Edmonton Oilers in the fourth round (114th overall) in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft and was traded to the Coyotes in March 2013.
