Defenseman Jack Dougherty Commits to Ohio State

MUSKEGON, Michigan (April 3rd) – The Muskegon Lumberjacks are proud to announce that affiliate Defenseman Jack Dougherty has decided to play his college hockey for the Ohio State Buckeyes out of the Big Ten Conference beginning in the 2014-15 season
.
Dougherty, the Cottage Grove, Minnesota native, spent the last two seasons playing for St. Thomas Academy in the Minnesota State High School League accumulating 45 points (6 goals and 39 assists) to go along with a plus-nine rating in 61 total games played.

During the 2011-12 season, his sophomore season at St. Thomas Academy, Dougherty recorded 10 points (1 goal and 9 assists) to go along with a plus-two rating in 30 games played. This past season, Dougherty concluded his junior season with the Cadets totaling 35 points (5 goals and 30 assists) to go along with a plus-seven rating in 31 games played.

In 2012, Dougherty spent two months in September and October playing for Team Southeast in the Upper Midwest High School Elite League tallying 11 points (2 goals and 9 assists) in 19 games played. Dougherty also spent the past summer playing for the U.S. Under-17 Select Team that captured first place in the 2012 Five Nations Tournament in the Czech Republic during the early part of August.

St. Thomas Academy has captured the last three Class A State Championships in the state of Minnesota with Dougherty being a part of the last two championship teams. The Cadets have now won eight total hockey state championships in the school’s history.

The Ohio State Buckeyes will be moving into the newly-formed Big Ten Conference in hockey beginning in the 2013-14 season after serving 41 seasons in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA).
