HAWKS' CARRUTH NAMED CHL GOALIE OF THE WEEK

Press Release

Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Mac Carruth of the Portland Winterhawks is the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week for the playoff week ending April 21 with a 2-0 record including a shutout victory with a goals-against-average of 0.50 and save percentage of .984.

Carruth backstopped the Winterhawks to two straight wins to open the WHL’s Western Conference Semi-Finals against the Kamloops Blazers.  He was named first star in both contests including Game 1 on Friday night where he made 33 saves in the 4-1 victory, and on Saturday where he made 27 saves as part of the 4-0 shutout victory.  The win was the 43rd playoff victory of his career which builds on the WHL record he set last week with win number 41 in the Conference Semi-Finals against the Spokane Chiefs.

Carruth, a 21-year-old from Shorewood, MN, is playing in his fourth WHL season with the Winterhawks and claims this award for the third time this season.  The Chicago Blackhawks prospect and Western Conference nominee for WHL Goaltender of the Year has a playoff record of 10-2 including three shutouts with a goals-against-average of 1.53 and save percentage of .938.

Also considered for the award this week was Philippe Cadorette of the Baie-Comeau Drakkar who won two games against the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada in the QMJHL Semi-Finals with a goals-against-average of 1.00 and save percentage of .965.  In the OHL, Mathias Niederberger of the Barrie Colts went 1-1 against the Belleville Bulls in the Eastern Conference Semi-Finals posting a shutout victory with a goals-against-average of 1.51 and save percentage of .959.
