Phantoms Forward Commits to Merrimack College

Press Release

Youngstown Phantoms forward Alfred Larsson has committed to play NCAA hockey at Merrimack College following his USHL career.

The 6-4, 200-pound forward put up 19 points (8g, 11a) and 62 penalty minutes in 49 regular season games.  In his first USHL game, he scored a goal in the 5-3 win against the Omaha Lancers on opening night of the season (September 28th, 2012).  Two of the goals this season for the 19-year-old Malmo, Sweden native were game-winners.

"Alfred Larsson came over to the states with the goal of getting a Division I hockey scholarship and has done everything possible to earn it," said Phantoms head coach Anthony Noreen.  "He plays the game the right way – he plays it hard, he plays our style, and above all else, he's one of the best human beings I've had the pleasure of being around in my life.  At Merrimack, we know he's going to a place that appreciates the type of player that he is."

Another Phantoms player will join Larsson at Merrimack College as affiliate defenseman Alex Carle is committed to the school.

Merrimack College is located in North Andover, Massachusetts and had four USHL alumni on the roster of the Hockey East program this season; Sam Marotta (Indiana Ice), Tom McCarthy (Fargo Force), Dan Kolomatis (Tri-City/Chicago), and Justin Hussar (Des Moines Buccaneers).  In addition, former Youngstown Phantoms coach Curtis Carr is on the staff at Merrimack.
