Stenerson stays hot as Eagles take game one of Finals over Penticton

Press Release

Michael Stenerson scored shorthanded and with the man advantage helping the Surrey Eagles to a 5-2 win over the Penticton Vees in Game 1 of the BCHL Finals.

Penticton's Brock Balson opened the scoring near the midway point of the first but Stenerson's shorthanded tally tied it late in the first. Penalty woes for the Vees affored Surrey power-play time early in the second and Stenerson capitalized as did Craig Wyszomirski, who one-timed home the eventual game-winner in a 5-on-3 situation.

Wade Murphy got the Vees back within one near the midway point of the second but in the third, Demico Hannoun supplied the insurance marker Surrey needed and Nic Pierog provided an empty-netter to seal the deal.

Michael Santaguida made 31 saves for the win while Chad Katunar made 20 saves in the Penticton net.

Game 2 goes Saturday night at 7:15 at South Surrey Arena.
