USHL RoughRiders welcome Upton and Osaer

The Cedar Rapids RoughRiders of the United States Hockey League (USHL) would like to announce that they have officially hired two new assistant coaches for the upcoming 2013-14 season.

Tom Upton, an assistant coach from University of Wisconsin- Stevens Point, will be joining the team in a few weeks. He has been an assistant coach at UW-Stevens Point for the last 3 years where he specialized in strength and conditioning, recruiting, and defensive analysis. Originally from Austin, Texas, he played junior hockey in the NAHL, college hockey with UW-Stevens Point, and professional hockey in the SPHL before transitioning into coaching.

Phil Osaer, is a USHL alumni goaltender who will be joining the team in May. From Livonia, Michigan, he attended Ferris State University and has been playing professionally in the AHL, ECHL, and EIHL in Cardiff, Wales.

“We’re excited to get started with the new coaching staff. Phil and Tom will bring some special qualities to the staff,” said RoughRiders Head Coach Mark Carlson.
