Mooseheads' offence unrelenting in victory

Press Release

Martin Frk recorded a hat-trick and the Halifax offence was relentless, registering eight goals on its way to a convincing 9-2 victory over the London Knights in game five of the 2013 MasterCard Memorial Cup.

The Mooseheads opened the scoring on the power-play. Stefan Fournier, parked in the slot, redirected a perfect Martin Frk pass into the Knights’ net at 7:43.

Halifax doubled their lead three minutes later on a Darcy Ashley marker. He pounced on a loose puck and his second effort paid dividends as the Mooseheads doubled their lead.

The Mooseheads’ offence added three more goals in the first period.

First, Darcy Ashley registered his second goal of the game by tipping a MacKenzie Weegar point-shot into the London net. Then, Brent Andrews jumped on a free puck in the neutral zone, came down the wing and fired a shot that found the top corner. Finally, Martin Frk one-timed a Jonathan Drouin pass to make it 5-0.

Anthony Stolarz started the second period in net for the Knights. The Mooseheads added to their lead 1:45 into the second period. Martin Frk completed a spectacular tic-tac-toe play with the help of Jonathan Drouin and Nathan MacKinnon.

Halifax was unrelenting despite their six-goal lead. Ryan Falkenham made it 7-0 on an unassisted marker at 9:51.

London finally got on the board at 16:02 into the second period thanks to an amazing individual effort by Seth Griffith. The Knights added a second marker less than one minute later. Matt Rupert was left alone on the right side of the crease and made no mistake, shooting the puck into the open net.

It took little time for the Mooseheads to get one back as Martin Frk collected his third goal of the game courtesy of a gorgeous Nathan MacKinnon feed in the slot.

Luca Ciampini completed the scoring for Halifax.

The final game of the round robin of the 2013 MasterCard Memorial Cup will see the Saskatoon Blades battle the Portland Winterhawks. The game can be seen live on Sportsnet and TVA Sports starting at 8 pm ET / 9 pm AT.
