RED DEER, AB – Brent Sutter, President/General Manager/Head Coach of the Red Deer Rebels Hockey Club, announced today that he will remain as Head Coach of the team for the 2013-14 Western Hockey League Season. Sutter took over the Rebels November 12th, 2012 and went 29-15-5 for a 4th place finish in the Eastern Conference. The Rebels eliminated the Prince Albert Raiders in the first round before fall ing to the Calgary Hitmen in the second round. Sutter has an all-time coaching record of 302-173-60 in 535 regular season WHL games.
The entire Rebels Hockey Operations staff was also announced today.
Associate Coach Jeff Truitt, who came to the team November 12th, will return and has signed a multi-year agreement.
The Rebels have hired Assistant Coach Steve O’Rourke. O’Rourke was an Assistant Coach with the Abbotsford Heat of the American Hockey League from 2009-2011. He played in the Western Hockey League from 1991-94 with the Tri-City Americans and the Moose Jaw Warriors. O’Rourke also played with the Penticton Panthers of the British Columbia (Junior A) Hockey League before attending the University of Lethbridge. He went on to a seven year professional hockey career.
Sutter also announced that Equipment Manager Dave ‘Radar’ Horning has also signed a multi-year contract extension. Horning has been with the Rebels since 1995 and in the WHL since 1991.
The Rebels have hired Jordan Aube as Athletic Therapist. Aube was working with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the Canadian Football League and with the Winnipeg Jets of the National Hockey League.
