Saints Earn 2-0 Series Lead After Game Two Victory

Press Release

Fargo Force 1 @ Dubuque Fighting Saints 4

The Dubuque Fighting Saints continued their home dominance as they remained undefeated at the Mystique Ice Center following a 4-1 win in Game Two of the Clark Cup Final.  They now lead the best-of-five series 2-0.

Peter Quenneville put the Saints on the scoreboard midway through the first period, his first goal of the series and five of the playoffs.  A little more than three minutes later, defenseman Matt Benning scored his first USHL playoff goal to make it 2-0 and chase goaltender Brendan Jensen.

Fargo got back in it right away in the second period as Alex Iafallo scored just 1:16 into the frame, his fifth goal of the postseason.  It wouldn’t take long for Dubuque to respond as just 12 seconds after a Fargo penalty, they capitalized on the power play as Quenneville netted his second of the game.

Dubuque would keep firing, but Fargo goaltender Cameron Johnson held them in check after coming into the game.  He finished the night with 27 saves on 28 shots against him.  Arthur Brey continued his solid play, making a total of 25 saves to improve to 8-1 in the playoffs.

Mike Szmatula would add an empty net goal in the final seconds to finish off the game, his third goal of the series and seventh of the postseason, much to the delight of the 3,110 fans in attendance.

The series now shifts to Fargo for Game Three on Friday, May 17th as the Saints look to win their second Clark Cup in three seasons and the Force look to extend the series.
