General Manager Warren Rychel announced today the club has signed a pair of picks from the 2013 OHL Priority Selection, as defenceman Andrew Burns and goaltender Brendan Johnston have each inked an OHL Contract and Standard Education Package with the Spitfires.
A member of the 2013 OHL Cup Champion Oakville Rangers, Burns was Windsor's 3rd Round selection, 47th overall back in April. The 5'11”, 167-pound defenceman had an impressive 2012-13 season, scoring 14 goals and adding 36 assists with 52 penalty minutes in 69 games played.
Johnston, who recently represented Team Alliance in first ever U16 OHL Gold Cup, was taken in the 5th Round, 97th overall, after playing 16 games for the Chatham-Kent Cyclones last season, posting a 6-6-3 record with a 2.36 Goals Against Average and a .916 Save Percentage.
“We're really happy to get these two boys locked up,” said Rychel. “Both are a big part of the club's future. Burns is a real smart two-way defenceman and Johnston is a heck of a prospect in goal. We're looking forward to seeing both of them at our upcoming mini-camp.”
Both players will be among those participating at the 2013 Windsor Spitfires Mini-Camp on Friday May 31st and Saturday, June 1st.
