The Truro Bearcats (Host) (4-0) edged the Summerside Western Capitals (MHL) (3-2) 3-2 in double overtime
Sunday afternoon in Truro in Game #8 (Championship Game) of the Fred
Page Cup Eastern Canadian Championships. With the win, the Bearcats win
the 2013 Fred Page Cup Eastern Canadian Championship and advance to the
Royal Bank Cup.
Dylan McGuigan led the Bearcats with 2 goals while Philip Fife added 1 goal and 1 assist.
McGuigan opened the scoring at 1:15 to give the Bearcats a 1-0 lead
after the first period. JP Harvey scored 37 seconds into the middle
frame to tie the game at 1-1. Wes Herrett scored 17 seconds later to
give the Western Capitals a 2-1 lead after the second period. McGuigan
(second goal of game) scored at 10:09 to even the score at 2-2 and force
extra time. As there was no scoring in the first overtime period, they
went to a second additional period. In the second overtime period,
Philip Fife (game winner) scored at 15:41 for the championship win.
Truro went 0 for 4 on the powerplay while Summerside went 0 for 6.
Shayne Campbell stopped 35 of 37 shots for the win while Kevin Bailie stopped 43 of 46 shots in the loss.
Both teams now advance to the Royals Bank Cup Jr A Championships in Summerside, PE running from May 11-19.
