Frontenacs Acquire Goaltender Matt Mahalak from Plymouth

Doug Gilmour, General Manager of the Kingston Frontenacs, announced today that the hockey club has acquired goaltender Matt Mahalak from the Plymouth Whalers in exchange for the Windsor Spitfires’ 3rd round selection in 2014 and Kingston’s 3rd round selection in the 2015 OHL Priority Selection.

Mahalak, a 20-year-old native of Monroe, Michigan played 46 games in the 2012-13 regular season for the Plymouth Whalers with a 0.906 save percentage and 2.86 goals-against-average. Selected in the 2nd round of the OHL Priority Selection in 2009, Mahalak was drafted by the Carolina Hurricanes in the 6th round, 163rd overall in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. He was named Goaltender of the Week by the CHL for the final week of the 2012-13 regular season after posting a 2-0-0-0 record with two shutouts giving him a perfect goals-against-average of 0.000 and a save percentage of 1.000.
