Rutherford Statement on Gregory Hofmann

Press Release

RALEIGH, NC – Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today issued the following statement about contract negotiations with forward Gregory Hofmann. The team and Hofmann failed to reach an agreement by Friday’s 5 p.m. deadline, and Hofmann will enter the 2013 NHL Draft. Hofmann was Carolina’s fourth selection, 103rd overall, in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.

“We wanted to sign Gregory to a contract, and felt that he could have a future with the Hurricanes on the NHL level,” said Rutherford. “It is disappointing that we were unable to reach an agreement with his agent to keep him in our organization.”

Carolina’s 2011 sixth-round selection Matt Mahalak was also not signed and will re-enter the draft.
