Second round pick Austin Gerhart commits to Mississauga Steelheads

 Mississauga, ON – The Mississauga Steelheads are pleased to announce the signing of their 2nd round pick in the 2013 OHL Priority Selection, Austin Gerhart.

Gerhart was chosen by the Steelheads in the 2nd round, 36th overall, and was part of a strong draft class from the Barrie Colts Minor Midget AAA 2012-2013 team which saw nine players selected at the OHL Priority Selection. In 60 games last season with the Colts, Gerhart scored 34 goals and 44 assists, with 22 penalty minutes.

The 5’11 Barrie,Ontario native possess a great goal scoring touch and is a strong offensive player who knows how to protect the puck. Steelheads General Manager and Head Coach, James Boyd, likes what Gerhart brings to the table and sees great potential “Austin is a skilled playmaker who thinks the game at a high level. We look forward to seeing Austin on the ice in the fall." Austin and his family made the trip down the 400 on Thursday and were on hand at the Hershey Centre to make the deal official.  “I am just very excited to get to work with the Steelheads. I plan on training hard this summer and coming to training camp in great shape.”

Along with Steelheads first round pick, Sean Day, the Steelheads have signed two of their early picks from the 2013 Priority Selection.

The Steelheads welcome Austin and his family to the Mississauga Steelheads organization.
