SAINT JOHN, NB - The
Sea Dogs Foundation and Children's Wish Foundation are very proud to
announce the addition of three former Sea Dogs to the confirmed roster
for the Wallace McCain Memorial Alumni Game.
Yann Sauve, the
Sea Dogs first pick, first overall, in the 2006 Quebec Major Junior
Hockey League entry draft has confirmed he will play. Sauve was selected
in the 2nd round, 41st overall, by the Vancouver Canucks in the 2008
NHL Entry Draft and made his NHL debut with the Canucks on Feb. 15, 2011
against the Minnesota Wild.
Eric Gelinas
helped the Sea Dogs win the 2011 President and MasterCard Memorial Cups.
The New Jersey Devils selected Gelinas in the 2nd round, 54th overall
in 2009. The big defenceman was acquired by the Sea Dogs on Jan. 5, 2011
as they geared up to make the deep playoff run. He made his NHL debut
on April 25, 2013 against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Rounding out the
latest additions is Robert Mayer who signed a two-year deal with the
Montreal Canadiens on June 7th. Mayer was selected 3rd overall in the
Canadian Hockey League Import Draft by the Sea Dogs in 2007. Undrafted
in the NHL, Mayer signed as a free agent with the Canadiens on Sept. 25,
2008. In the 2009-10 season with the Cincinnati Cyclones of the East
Coast Hockey League, Mayer took them all the way, capturing the ECHL's
Kelly Cup and grabbing playoff MVP honours in the process. He has been
called up to the big club several times and backed up Peter Dubaj on May
9, 2013 during the first round of the 2013 NHL playoffs.
