MUSKEGON, Michigan (July 11th)
– The Muskegon Lumberjacks have announced their initial 28-man
protected list following the completion of June’s Tryout Camp at the
L.C. Walker Arena and in preparation for Training Camp in late August to
try and make the 2013-14 roster.
Eight notable players from the 2012-13
season will be returning to the team this season being led by Forward
Connor Hurley (Eagan, Minnesota), who was recently selected by the
Buffalo Sabres in the 2nd round (38th overall) in the 2013 NHL Entry
Draft and is committed to the University of Notre Dame following his
USHL career. The following is the list of players from the 2012-13
season that will be returning this season (in alphabetical order by
first name):

The remaining players on the protected
list feature the Lumberjacks’ first two picks in the 2013 USHL Phase
One Draft in Forward Grant Jozefek (7th overall) and Defenseman Chaz
Switzer (8th overall). Also, Muskegon’s first two picks in the 2013 USHL
Phase Two Draft also land on the list in Defenseman Tommy Panico (3rd
overall) and Forward Haralds Egle (8th overall).
Other notable players on the list
include Phase Two draft pick and late round gem in Forward Robbie
DeMontis (19th round, 278th overall) along with Michigan’s 2013 Mr.
Hockey award recipient in Riverview High School Forward Brian
Bachnak. Bachnak was also named to the Michigan High School Hockey
Coaches’ Association’s (MHSHCA) “Dream Team” for his efforts during the
2012-13 season.

The Lumberjacks also announce two
trades in which they have traded the rights of Defenseman Alexx
Privitera to the Dubuque Fighting Saints in exchange for a conditional
first round pick in the 2014 USHL Phase One Draft. Also, the Lumberjacks
completed a trade with the Sioux Falls Stampede in which they have
acquired the rights to Defenseman Janik Moser in exchange for a
conditional eighth round pick in the 2014 USHL Phase Two Draft.
The initial protected list is subject
to change over time. The Lumberjacks will begin their preseason slate in
the 2013 USHL Atlantic Challenge slated for September 6-8th in New York
and New Jersey. A complete 2013-14 schedule will be released within the
coming days.
