Press Release
Brandon, MB. – The Brandon Wheat Kings have announced that Al Macpherson will be stepping down as Director of Player Personnel with the Western Hockey League club.
A
native of Lacadena, Saskatchewan, Macpherson joined the Wheat Kings in
1986 and twelve years later he became a full time employee of the WHL
club when he was promoted to his current post.
Since his appointment as director of player personnel in ‘98, Macpherson and general manager Kelly McCrimmon
have teamed up to produce one of the most successful clubs in the
Canadian Hockey League. In addition to two trips to the League Finals,
the Wheat Kings have appeared in four Eastern Conference Finals and came
within one victory of capturing the 2010 MasterCard Memorial Cup.
“Al
has been a tremendously integral member of our organization for many
years,” says McCrimmon. “He is one of the best, a scout that has wide
spread respect across our league who represented us professionally every
day. We knew this day could come, and we are grateful for his
contributions.”
The Wheat Kings will begin the process of hiring a new Head Scout immediately.
Wheat Kings’ Training Camp begins in late August, with the 2013-14 regular season scheduled to begin on Friday, September 20th against the Warriors in Moose Jaw.
