Willy Smith commits to the Cats

Press Release

The Moncton Wildcats have received a commitment from 1996 American born and the Cats 6th round draft pick in 2013 Willy Smith. Smith joins the Wildcats after playing two seasons with the Springfield Pics in the EJHL.

“Willy will be a solid addition to our team and has been playing junior hockey since he was 15.” said Director of Hockey Operations Danny Flynn. “He spent most of last year playing both forward and defense. As well, he missed a big chunk of last season while he was out with mono. When healthy he is certainly one of the best 96 born players in the New England region. His Dad is a former pro player who was a 2nd round pick of the Islanders and played his junior hockey in the WHL. He settled in the Springfield area after his pro career. We see him as a smart two way forward and a great addition to our group of 96 born players. I saw him this week in Fredericton and he was certainly one of the best players for his age group at that camp. He should mature into a very good major junior player and we are really excited to have him join the Wildcats.”

In 54 games in the 18-20 year old dominated Eastern Junior Hockey League in the New England States Willy played 54 games and notched 12 points. Training camp this season opens on August 12th.
