Press Release

Calgary, AB - The Calgary Hitmen Hockey Club is pleased to announce a long-term agreement with Maverick Sports Management to launch the Junior Hitmen Hockey Development Program.  The partnership is committed to building and training elite hockey players from the novice to bantam levels who will be representing the Junior Hitmen Spring Hockey teams.

The objective of Junior Hitmen Spring Hockey is to provide an elite hockey development program that encourages players to excel both on and off the ice through strong coaching and mentorship. The program will consist of three components including Junior Hitmen Spring Hockey teams, Hockey Development and Training Camps and the Calgary Hitmen International Spring Hockey Invitational Championship.

“We are excited to provide our leadership, knowledge, expertise and brand to the development of young players in Calgary and area,” stated Mike Moore, Calgary Hitmen General Manager and Vice President of Business Operations.  “Spring hockey development has grown significantly in the past number of years and many players are now playing the game outside of the traditional winter months.”

“Our goal is to provide these young, elite players with the opportunity to experience both on-ice and off-ice development in a program that has not been offered to this extent before,” commented Tyler Drader, Director of Operations for the Junior Hitmen Development Program.  “The strength of our program is having experienced coaches as well as the influence and guidance of the Calgary Hitmen coaching staff to mentor these players.  This is truly a rare and rewarding opportunity.”

The selection process starts this weekend, August 10-11, with the Identification Camp at WinSport in Calgary. Recruitment will continue throughout the fall until the Final Selection Camp in late December.  Final rosters will be determined in January 2014.

The inaugural Calgary Hitmen International Spring Hockey Invitational Championship is scheduled for July 16-20, 2014 in Calgary. The tournament will include the eight Junior Hitmen Spring Hockey teams along with other elite spring hockey teams from across Canada, the United States and Europe.
