KENT, August 5, 2013 — Seattle Thunderbirds general manager Russ Farwell today announced Ian Gordon is the T-Birds new goalie coach.
“Although this change came upon us a bit late in the summer we are very happy with the addition of Gordon to our staff and we are looking forward to getting started on the coming season,” said Farwell.
For the last 13 years, Gordon has played in the German Elite League. He had been with Ingolstadt ERC since 2010, the Frankfurt Lions from 2003 to 2010 and the Schwenningen Wild Wings from 2001 to 2003.
“I have played professionally for 18 years and I am really excited to share my knowledge and help develop the T-Birds goalies. The opportunity in front of us is really exciting and I am looking forward to training camp,” said Gordon.
Gordon played four seasons in the IHL from 1997 to 2001 with the Cleveland Lumberjacks, Utah Grizzlies and Grand Rapids Griffins. He was with the Saint John Flames of the AHL for two seasons, from 1995 to 1997.
Gordon played three years in the WHL with the Saskatoon Blades and Swift Current Broncos from 1992 to 1995. He replaces Dusty Imoo who joined the Winnipeg Jets as a goalie coach on July 23.
