Barrie, ON- The Barrie Colts are pleased to announce today that forward Matthew Kreis has committed to the team and has signed an Ontario Hockey League agreement and education package.
The Colts selected the 5’11” 165lbs centreman in the 1st round, 15th overall in the 2013 Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection draft.
Kreis the Georgetown, ON native registered 22 goals, 28 assists for 50 points in 38 games this past season with the Halton Hurricanes Mn. Midget AAA team.
“Matthew is a skilled two way centre with a high compete level and we are extremely happy to have him,” said Colts General Manager Jason Ford.
In the 2013 OHL Cup for the Halton Hurricanes Kreis was second in scoring on his team with 1 goal and 4 assists for 5 points in 5 games.
“He skates well, has excellent hockey sense and he plays hard in all three zones. Matthew is a character kid with plenty of upside”, added Ford.
Early this summer Kreis was one of 68 players named to attend the 2013 Under-17 Provincial Camp to be held in Oshawa, Ontario from August 14–18. Players selected will represent Team Ontario at the 2014 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge to be held in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, from December 27, 2013, until January 5, 2014.
Barrie Colts training camp opens Monday August 26th, 2013 at the Barrie Molson Centre.
