DUBUQUE, Iowa - The Dubuque Fighting Saints are welcoming fresh faces to The Key City this season both on and off the ice. The club formally announced numerous changes to its Hockey Operations staff today, as well as a pair of promotions within the Front Office staff.
Among the new hires is Matt Millar who has joined the club as the team's Goalie Coach/ Director of Hockey Operations. He previously held goaltending coaching positions with the USHL's Omaha Lancers and Sioux Falls Stampede, as well as Minnesota High School teams Roseau, Hill-Murray, and Centennial, as well as the collegiate ranks with the Bethal Royals. Millar was an amateur scout for the NHL's Phoenix Coyotes from 2009-2011, and was previously a scout for USA Hockey Development.
"Matt has great experience at both the junior and NHL levels," said Fighting Saints Head Coach and General Manager Matt Shaw. "He has already demonstrated great communicative skills with our goaltenders."
Millar joins a hockey staff that lost Adam Micheletti who left to become the Director of Hockey Operations for the USHL.
Additionally, the Fighting Saints have added a pair of scouts for the upcoming season. Joining the team are Jeremiah Crowe and Mark Plantery.
Crowe will cover Midget AAA, Prep School, and junior players in the Western New York Area. Crowe played in the NCAA at Clarkson University where he twice advanced to the NCAA tournament. He has also served as an intern in the Buffalo Sabres Pro Scouting Department in 2008 and joined Division III Buffalo State as an assistant coach in 2011.
Plantery played professional hockey from 1979-1986, and spent 25 games in the NHL with the Winnipeg Jets in 1980-81, scoring one goal and adding five assists.
Dubuque also announced the additions of Athletic Trainer Sean Murdoch and Equipment Manager Eric Kupka.
Murdoch comes to Dubuque from the University of Minnesota where he completed his master's degree while working with the Golden Gopher Baseball team. Prior to his time in Minnesota, Murdoch completed his undergraduate degree at Michigan State University. He is a Board of Certification Certified Athletic Trainer. He replaces Aaron Herbst who recently accepted a teaching position at Clarke University.
Kupka is a Zimmerman, Minnesota native comes from St. Cloud State University where he spent five years working as a Student Equipment Manager for the SCSU Men's and Women's Hockey teams. Kupka also has experience working with USA Hockey, serving as an Assistant Equipment Manager for the USA Women's National Team. Prior to Dubuque, Kupka spent the summer of 2013 as the Equipment Manager for the St. Cloud Rox of the Northwoods Baseball League.
On the business side, the Fighting Saints also announced a pair of promotions. Tyler Loucks has been promoted to Director of Ticket Sales, and Spencer Radabaugh has been named Ticket Sales Manager. Loucks joined the Fighting Saints as an Account Executive in June 2010 before being named the team's Ticket Sales Manager last season. Radabaugh was an intern with the Fighting Saints during the club's first year back in Dubuque, and was previously a Ticket Sales Representative with the club. He will continue to be in charge of Suite Services in his new role.
