DUBUQUE, Iowa-The Dubuque Fighting Saints are less than two weeks away from heading overseas to represent the United States in the 2013 Junior Club World Cup in Omsk, Russia, and players will start arriving to Dubuque in a week. Prior to the team hopping on a flight across the country, the club will welcome fans to the arena to meet the new team. The Fighting Saints will be hosting a Russia Sendoff event on Saturday, August 17 at the Mystique Community Ice Center. The event will feature an open practice and a controlled scrimmage on the ice, and fans can meet the players in a post-practice autograph session. The event will also feature a Fighting Saints merchandise clearance sale.
The merchandise clearance sale runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with Fighting Saints apparel and novelty items on sale. A wide variety of select items will be 25-75% off.
The team will take the ice at 11 a.m. for a practice and controlled scrimmage, which will last around two hours. This will be Fighting Saints fans' first chance to see the team in action and get to know some of the new players who will call Dubuque home this season.
Following the practice, players will be available to sign autographs and take photos with fans.
The Russia Sendoff event is free and open to the public and fans are encouraged to give the team a warm welcome to Dubuque prior to the club's departure for Russia on August 20. For more information, fans should visit DubuqueFightingSaints.com or call 563.583.6880.
The Fighting Saints trip to Russia for the Junior Club World Cup is sponsored by Mark and Cheryl Falb, and Kwik Stop and Dairy Queen. More information about the club's trip to Russia will be released in the coming weeks.
