Swyripa head to Brandon University

Press Release

Brandon, MB. – The Brandon Wheat Kings will be without Jason Swyripa when they kick off their 2013 Western Hockey League Training Camp later this month at Westman Communications Group Place.

The WHL club has learned that the 20-year old Calgary product has elected to activate his Wheat Kings Scholarship and is expected to enroll this fall at Brandon University.

A former second round bantam draft choice of the Wheat Kings, Swyripa played three seasons in Brandon and was coming off a year in which he had career highs in goals (10), assists (13) and points (23).

In 200 career games as a Wheat King, the former Calgary AAA UFA Bison scored 25 goals and 61 points while accumulating 114 minutes in penalties.

As a result of Swyripa’s decision, the Wheat Kings expect to open up camp next week with three 20-year old veterans – forwards Chad Robinson and Jens Meilleur and blueliner Rene Hunter.
