Tigers sign two top prospects from 2013 Bantam Draft

Press Release

Medicine Hat, AB – The Medicine Hat Tigers announced this morning the signing of forwards Mason Shaw and Ryan Jevne to WHL contracts. Both Shaw and Jevne were selected in the second round of the WHL bantam draft held on May 2nd.

Shaw, a native of Lloydminster, AB, was selected 32nd overall while Jevne, from Edmonton, AB, was chosen three picks later by the Tigers at number 35.

"We are thrilled that Mason, Ryan and their families have decided to join the Tiger’s organization," stated Tigers’ general manager and head coach Shaun Clouston. "We look forward to an exciting and successful future together".

Shaw spent last season with the Lloydminster Universal Heat of the Alberta Major Bantam League where he posted a total of 86 points on 20 goals and 66 assists in 31 games. Mason was fifth overall in league scoring last year. In his first year with the Heat, Mason scored 7 goals and 19 assists for 26 points in 28 games during the 2011-12 season.

"It's a very exciting day for myself and my family.  There was never a doubt that I wanted to play in the WHL, and to have this opportunity arise from the Tigers, I was very excited," says Shaw.

Shaw and Jevne have been selected to Team Alberta’s U16 short list for the 2013 Western Canada U16 Challenge Cup taking place later this year in Calgary.

Jevne suited up for MLAC Scott Pump the past two seasons in the Alberta Major Bantam League. During the 2012-13 season, Jevne led his team in scoring with 56 goals while adding 31 assists for 87 points in 32 games, good for fourth place in AMBHL scoring, one point ahead of Mason Shaw.

"It's obviously something that every kid wishes for after the draft, and I've heard nothing but good things about playing here," added Jevne upon signing with the Tigers.

"I'm excited to get things going."
