Moncton, NB – The Moncton Wildcats are pleased to announce that Jean-Francois Damphousse has joined the team as the new Goaltender Coach. JF is a former Goaltender for the Moncton Wildcats back when the team inaugurated in 1996, being the first pick 5th overall in the 1996 QMJHL Entry Draft. He played three years with the Wildcats until moving to play professionally.
“I am really excited about Jean-Francois joining the Wildcats coaching staff”, said Director of Hockey Operations Danny Flynn. “He is a top quality person and brings a wealth of experience both as a player in the NHL and as a goalie coach.”
JF was drafted in the first round, 24th overall, by the New Jersey Devils in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft and was the first Wildcat player to play in the NHL. Damphousse had this to say about joining the team “This is a great opportunity to come back; it’s where I started my career and where I learned the most. I am looking forward to working with the goalies and contribute to the future success of the hockey team.”
This was the final piece to completing the coaching staff for new Head Coach Darren Rumble. “I look forward to working with JF. He has a great hockey background and our goalies will benefit greatly from his knowledge and experience.” Said Coach Rumble.
Training camp opens on August 12th at the Red Ball Internet Center.
