Chiefs reassign two prior to home preseason game

Press Release

SPOKANE, Wash. - The Spokane Chiefs reassigned two players prior to their home preseason game tonight, September 11, versus the Tri-City Americans. Sixteen-year-olds Evan Fiala and Tyson Verhelst will return to their home clubs.

A defenseman from Clavet, SK, Fiala was the Chiefs 1st-Round (14th overall) pick in the 2012 WHL Bantam Draft. He returns to the Saskatoon Contacts Midget AAA of the Saskatchewan Midget Hockey League. Verhelst, a goaltender from Brandon, MB, was also selected by the Chiefs in 2012, coming off the board in the 3rd Round (58th overall). He has been assigned to the Neepawa Natives of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League.

With these two reassignments, the Chiefs roster now includes 28 players, including two goaltenders, 10 defensemen, and 16 forwards.

Eleven WHL rookies remain on the roster for tonight’s home preseason game vs. Tri-City. In their only home contest of the 2013 WHL Preseason, the Chiefs host the Americans at Eastern Washington University’s University Recreation Center (URC) in Cheney.
