Colts' Aaron Ekblad Named Team Captain

Press Release

Barrie, ON- The Barrie Colts announced today that Aaron Ekblad will be the team captain for the 2013-14 season. Assistant captains will be Zach Hall, Tyson Fawcett and Erik Bradford.

Ekblad played a key role in the success of the Colts last season and finished second in defenceman scoring in the 2013 OHL playoffs.

“Aaron has showed great leadership here the previous two season’s and early on this year. We feel he is our best candidate”, said head coach Dale Hawerchuk.

The former OHL rookie of the year was most recently named captain of Team Canada at the 2013 Ivan Hlinka tournament where Canada claimed gold.

“We have a lot of great leaders here but Aaron competes at such a high level on and off the ice and we hope everyone follows suit”, added Dale Hawerchuk.

Zach Hall, Tyson Fawcett and Erik Bradford will round out the assistant captains for the 2013-14 Barrie Colts

“It is always tough naming assistants as there is a lot of guys who can fit into that role and we have that here, but as coaches and management this is what we decided and we expect the guys who weren’t named captains to still be leaders as that’s what makes good teams”, said head coach Dale Hawerchuk.
