Hurricanes name Captains for 2013-2014 season

Press Release

Lethbridge, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes announced their team captains for the 2013-2014 seasons Wednesday afternoon.

20-year-old Left Winger Josh Derko has been named the 23rd Captain in Hurricanes history, while Brady Ramsay, Jaimen Yakubowski and Ryan Pilon have all been named Assistant Captains.

Derko is entering his first full season with the Hurricanes after coming to the team at the trade deadline last season from Swift Current. In his 22 games with the Hurricanes he tallied 9 points and 51 PIM’s.

Yakubowski and Ramsay were among the top 4 scoring leaders finishing with 50 and 42 points respectively. Yakubowski, 19, is entering his third season with the Hurricanes and has continued to improve each year. Last season he was recognized by both the WHL and CHL with player of the week honors. Like Yakubowski, 20-year old Brady Ramsay has continued to improve each season and enters this year just 17 games shy of 200 for his WHL career.

At 16, Pilon is heading into his second full season with the Canes. He was second in rookie scoring last year with 28 points (5G, 23A) and was defensively sound on the backend. Pilon who’s competed for Canada at the 2012 Youth Olympics was a member of the Canada’s Gold Medal winning team at the U18 Ivan Hlinka Tournament this past summer. His leadership capabilities were also recognized last year when he was named Captain of Team West at the U17 Hockey Challenge.
