Wolves name team captains

Press Release

Sudbury Wolves Head Coach Paul Fixter and Associate Coach David Matsos are pleased to announce their Team Captains for the upcoming season.

Veteran defenceman KEVIN RAINE has been named 'Team Captain' and will wear the ‘C’.  Raine, 20, is playing in his fourth season in the OHL and his second season with the Sudbury Wolves. The Dryden, Ontario native was acquired in January, 2013 from the London Knights.

Raine recently completed a try-out with the Toronto Maple Leafs and had an excellent camp. Raine won an OHL Championship with the London Knights in 2012 and finished as runners-up in the 2012 Mastercard Memorial Cup.

MATHEW CAMPAGNA, NICK BAPTISTE and JEFF CORBETT have been named Alternate Captains and will wear 'A's on their jerseys this season.

CAMPAGNA, 19, is entering his fourth season with the Wolves and is a former 1st round selection of the Wolves. Campagna recently returned from the LA Kings main camp where the Mississauga native performed very well.   Campagna was the team's leading scorer last season and is looking to be one of the top offensive players in the OHL this season.

BAPTISTE, 18, is a former 1st round selection of the Wolves and is entering his third season with the Wolves. The Ottawa native was drafted in the 3rd round of the NHL draft by the Buffalo Sabres and is looking forward to the opportunity of being a leader on the Wolves. Baptiste recently won a gold medal in Socchi, Russia at the World U18 Championships.

CORBETT, 19, is entering his third season with the Wolves. The Uxbridge, Ontario native has made a very positive impression on the new Wolves' coaching staff due to his leadership skills. Corbett is looking forward to staying healthy and having a productive season. Corbett attended the Ottawa Senators NHL Camp in July.

"I am pleased to name Kevin Raine as our team captain" notes Wolves' Head Coach Paul Fixter. "He is a natural leader and he has won championships with the London Knights and he knows what it takes to win.  Everyone on the team respects Kevin for his work ethic and the way he prepares himself for each and every practice and game.  David Matsos and I are very pleased with our leadership group as Mathew, Nick and Jeff are all very capable leaders and will provide added support to Kevin.”

Fixter adds, "We also have a number of very good leaders in our room that are deserving of a letter, but we know and they know, that they will be expected to provide us with leadership as well.”

“It is a great honour to be named team captain of the Wolves" notes Raine.  "We have a great group of guys in this room that are willing to work hard and do whatever it takes to win.  The expectations for our team are very high this season and everyone is on board.   I believe that we have what it takes to achieve greatness this season.”
