Alvaro commits to Providence

Press Release

St. Michael's Buzzers forward Matt Alvaro  has confirmed his commitment to join the Providence College Friars beginning with the 2015-16 Hockey East season.

A product of the Mississauga Rebels 'AAA' organization, Alvaro made his first appearance in the OJHL, playing a single game for the Burlington Cougars during his minor midget season in 2011-12.  Following the season, in which he notched 53 points in 67 games played for the Rebels, Alvaro would be selected by the Peterborough Petes in the 10th round, 186th overall, of the 2012 OHL Priority Selection.

Choosing to focus on the NCAA scholarship route, Alvaro would join the OJHL full-time last season as a member of the Oakville Blades.  The rookie would show well, registering 14 goals and 27 points, while playing in all 55 regular season games for the Blades.  Despite an early exit from the playoffs, the prospect's abilities were rewarded with a spot as an OJHL 2nd Team All-Prospect.

During the off-season, Alvaro moved on to join South Division rival, the St. Michael's Buzzers and has continued his upward trend thus far this season.  He currently sits fourth in scoring on the Buzzers with four goals and eleven points in 14 games played.

Congratulations to Matt and best of luck the next two years in the OJHL!
