Blomqvist inks deal with NHL's Jets

Press Release

Lethbridge, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes are excited to announce Axel Blomqvist has signed a 3-year, two-way, entry level contract with the NHL’s Winnipeg Jets.

The 6’6, 212 pound Forward from Osby, Sweden posted 33 points (7G, 26A) in 59 games during his rookie season with the Hurricanes. Blomqvist was ranked 163rd overall by Central Scouting but went undrafted this past June. Despite being passed over at the NHL Draft, the 18-year old signed an Amateur Tryout Contract (ATO) with the Winnipeg Jets in the offseason and went to their rookie camp in early September.

Blomqvist had a successful rookie tournament and earned a stay at the Jets main camp where he continued to impress the scouts and coaches. Blomqvist was returned to the Hurricanes in time for the start of the regular season. In three games, he is tied for third in team scoring with a goal and an assist with a -1 plus/minus rating.
