Iron Rangers’ O’Dea named Pizza Hut player of the week

Press Release

THUNDER BAY – The Superior International Junior Hockey League announced Monday that Minnesota Iron Rangers forward Matt O’Dea has been named the Pizza Hut player of the week for the period running Oct. 14-20.

In two outings this past week, the 19-year-old native of Mokena, Ill., had points in both them helping the Iron Rangers come away with a pair of victories while extending a season-high winning streak to three games.

O’Dea began his offensive outburst this past Friday by tallying twice, including scoring the game-winner, and adding an assist helping lead Minnesota to an 8-1 triumph over visiting Dryden.

One night later he struck shorthanded late in the first period aiding the Iron Rangers in their 3-2 come from behind victory over the English River Miners.

With his efforts last week O’Dea now has nine goals on the season, in just eight games.

His tally total ties him for second most in the entire SIJHL.

At the conclusion of the regular season the SIJHL’s most valuable player will be presented the Pizza Hut player of the year award and will also go on to be the league’s representative for the national Canadian Junior Hockey League player of the year trophy.
