Oil Kings swing deal with Everett

Press Release

Edmonton, AB – The Edmonton Oil Kings filled their empty overage spot Tuesday, making a deal to acquire 20-year-old centre Reid Petryk from the Everett Silvertips in exchange for a pair of draft picks.

The Edmonton product, who attended camp with the Edmonton Oilers this fall as a free agent invite, had 16 goals and 40 points in 70 games with the Silvertips last season. The 6-foot-2, 210-pound forward has yet to score in one game with Everett. On his career, spanning four seasons with Everett and the Medicine Hat Tiger, Petryk has 104 points and 194 penalty minutes in 259 games.

“We see him as a good-sized, versatile forward. He can play either centre or right wing and given his size and experience, it fits in with what we’re looking at doing up front,” said Oil Kings General Manager Randy Hansch.

“We had an open overage spot, and when you combine that with the injuries we’ve had up front recently, it certainly was a good fit.”

In return, the Oil Kings sent Everett at third round pick in the 2014 WHL Bantam Draft and a sixth round pick in the 2015 Draft.
