Penguins Sign Forward Matia Marcantuoni to Entry-Level Contract

The Pittsburgh Penguins have signed forward Matia Marcantuoni (mah-tee-ah mar-can-tue-oh-knee), to a three-year entry-level contract, it was announced today by executive vice president and general manager Ray Shero.

Marcantuoni’s contract will begin whenever he turns professional.

Marcantuoni, 19, is in his fourth season with the Kitchener Rangers of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), where he has tallied three goals, three assists and six points in nine games this year.

The 6-foot, 197-pound Marcantuoni established OHL career highs for Kitchener last season with 65 games played, 18 assists and 25 points. He added two points (1G-1A) in 10 playoff games.

A native of Woodbridge, Ontario, Marcantuoni has totaled 30 goals, 42 assists and 72 points in 139 career regular-season games with Kitchener. He has two points (1G-1A) in 17 playoff games.

Marcantuoni, who attended his first NHL training camp this past September, was originally drafted by the Penguins in the fourth round (92nd overall) of the 2012 NHL Draft held at CONSOL Energy Center.
