Petes sign goalie Scott Smith

Press Release

Peterborough Petes General Manager Michael Oke announced today that Goalie Scott Smith has committed to the Petes after signing a standard player agreement.

Smith was the 162nd overall selection by the Petes in the 2013 OHL Priority Selection. Last season, Smith recorded 7 wins, 5 losses, and 4 ties in 16 games played with the Minor Midget Hamilton Jr. Bulldogs.
“Scott played well throughout training camp and in discussion with him and his family, it was clear that he wanted to commit to playing in the OHL,” said Oke. “He is in a great situation with Burlington to continue his development with an eye on playing for the Petes down the road.”

“We followed Scott throughout the year and I identified him at the OHL combine as a goalie of definite interest,” added Petes Goaltender Coach Andrew Verner. “We have since come to realize that Scott possesses very impressive athleticism and strength along with his good size and net coverage that we feel makes him a very good goaltending prospect.”

“My goal is to one day make my dream of playing pro hockey a reality,” said Smith. “I’m looking to work hard and generally improve all aspects of my game with Burlington this season.”

The Petes will continue to monitor Scott’s development as he continues to play with the Burlington Eagles AAA team throughout the 2013-2014 season
