Emile Poirier, Randy Gazzola and Christopher Clapperton were named today
the TELUS three stars of the week for September 30 to October 6, 2013.
Emile
Poirier, the Gatineau Olympiques forward, scored 3 goals and added 3
assists for a total of 6 points, helping him grab the first star of the
week in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. He netted 2 winning goals
and another on a penalty kill. Poirier scored 1 goal and added 1
assist for each one of the games played against Charlottetown, Quebec
and Sherbrooke. In a 3-1 win against the Quebec Remparts, he scored the
winning goal which was also the 1400th win in the 41 year history of the
Hull/Gatineau franchise. In Sherbrooke on Sunday, Poirier was named the
1st star for having scored the winning goal in a 5-4 win.
Randy
Gazzola the Val-d’Or Foreurs defenseman tallied 6 assists, a +/- of +6
and 7 shots on goal earning him the second star of the week. In each one
of his two weekend games he had 3 assists. He and his teammates
defeated in turn Charlottetown (9-4) and Shawinigan (4-2). Gazzola
currently leads league defenseman in scoring, with 13 points (2 goals
and 11 assists).
On top of being named the second star last week
and the third star for the month of September, Christopher Clapperton,
the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada forward, is today named the third star
for this week as well. In 2 games played, he collected 6 points,
including 5 assists. He was named the 2nd star in each of the games
played and had 3 points in every occasion. Friday, against the
Drummondville Voltigeurs, Armada won 4-1 and Clapperton made 3 assists
on power plays. Moreover, five of his six points were registered on the
power play this week. Sunday against the Quebec Remparts, in a 3-2 win,
his 1st of 3 points was also his 150th of the regular season in the
QMJHL. He’s played 8 consecutive games with at least one point and
registered an assist on the winning goal, scored in overtime by his
teammate Daniel Walcott. As of October 7, he is ranked first of the top
scorers, with a total of 20 points (6 goals and 14 assists). Clapperton
owns in 59% of the total offense of his team thus far The Armada, having
won both games this weekend is listed 1st in the overall Standings with
16 points and an unblemished 8-0 record since the start of the season.
