Press Release
Stouffville Spirit alternate captain Robert Powers (photo credit - Michael DiCarlo/OJHL Images) has confirmed his commitment to join the Robert Morris University Colonials beginning with the 2014-15 Atlantic Hockey season.
The native of Ajax, Ontario was a minor hockey product of the Ajax-Pickering Raiders 'AAA' organization, before moving on to the Toronto Jr. Canadiens for his final season of midget in 2010-11. The following season, Powers made the jump to the Junior 'A' Canadiens, but after playing only three games he would be traded to the Stouffville Spirit. The fateful move paid off for the lanky rearguard as he helped the club capture their first OJHL title in a six game series victory over the Whitby Fury, before ultimately falling in the Dudley-Hewitt Cup Final.
Last season, the now veteran blueliner led a young squad that was learning the ropes of the junior game. Powers would lead all Spirit skaters with 28 assists, while finishing second overall in scoring on the club with 37 points in 54 regular season games played. One of the North's top defencemen, Powers would be selected to represent his division at the 2012 Central Canada Cup All-Star Challenge held in Wellington, Ontario, where he would notch three assists in four games played. Thus far this season, Powers has recorded three points in six games played, while leading a much improved squad.
Congratulations to Robert on the commitment and best of luck as he closes out his junior career!
