SEATTLE THUNDERBIRDS: Mourn Passing Of Dean Street

Press Release

KENT, October 24, 2013 — The Seattle Thunderbirds organization is in mourning with the passing of minority owner Dean Street on October 22.

Dean had been a member of the T-Birds family since 1997 when his company, Dean Street & Associates, a realty company, was a sponsor of the team. Dean joined the current ownership group that purchased the team in 2002 as a minority owner.

Dean was a long time hockey fan and supporter of minor hockey. He was also a very big horse racing enthusiast and owned several thoroughbred race horses. He married these two passions in February of 2011 when his thoroughbred Stormin Kitty gave birth to a foal sired by 1996 Kentucky Derby winner Grindstone. Dean chose to name the foal after the Seattle Thunderbirds mascot Cool Bird.

In March of 2011 the T-Birds issued a press release and produced a video feature on the birth of Cool Bird. It is hoped that Cool Bird will race in the 2014 Triple Crown Series.

Dean was also a big supporter of the Hockey Challenge getting off the ground and becoming an annual event.

Dean is survived by two daughters, Jackie Bergstrom and Tressa Groff, two sons Robert Street and Clifford Street and eight grandchildren.  A private memorial service will be held for Dean in the coming days.
