September Players Of The Month - Golden Horseshoe Conference

CAMBRIDGE, ON - The OHA/GOJHL Players of the Month for September for the Golden Horseshoe Conference are: Forward Roger Sherwood – Thorold Blackhawks, Goaltender Colin Furlong – Caledonia Pro–Fit Corvairs, and Defenseman Kyler Nixon – Caledonia Pro-Fit Corvairs.

Thorold Blackhawks’ forward Roger Sherwood had an impressive start to the season, collecting 20 points, with 7 goals and 13 assists in just 9 games. Sherwood closed out the month with an impressive 6 point effort against the Fort Erie Meteors with a hat trick and 3 helpers. The 6’5, 225lbs Hamilton, Ontario native has helped the Blackhawks get off to a good start in the Golden Horseshoe Conference as they currently sit tied for 3rd place.

Caledonia Pro-Fit Corvairs’ goaltender Colin Furlong had a perfect month of September to earn Player of the Month honours. Furlong earned the ‘W’ in all eight of Caledonia’s wins in the month, posting a sparkling 1.26 GAA and .954 Save Percentage. The 6’1 keeper from Cambridge has added to his totals already in October, and continues his unbeaten streak to start the season.

With their hot start to the season, it is only fitting to see another player from Caledonia chosen as a Player of the Month as Pro-Fit Corvairs defenseman Kyler Nixon earns the honour for September. Nixon, from Alliston, Ontario sits atop the GOJHL scoring list for defense after tallying 1 goal and 12 assists in 8 games in the month of September. Nixon scored at least one point in 7 of Caledonia’s 8 games in September, finishing the month with multiple points in the last 4 games.

The OHA/GOJHL Players of the Month for September will be announced for the Midwestern Conference tomorrow, followed by the Western Conference on Monday.
