Victoria, BC – The Victoria Royals are pleased to announce that the club has acquired 1996-born forward Mitch Skapski from the Everett Silvertips in exchange for the playing rights to 1996-born defenceman Mark Nerland.
Skapski joins the Royals from the Silvertips, where he has played since signing with Everett last December. The 5-9, 165 lb has suited up in just one game this season so far, but appeared in 34 games during the 2012-13 season with Everett.
The Abbotsford, BC native was previously acquired by the Silvertips in a trade with the Portland Winterhawks. Prior to signing with Everett, Skapski played 29 games last season with the Chilliwack Chiefs of the British Columbia Hockey League where he notched eight points (3g-5a) and 39 penalty minutes.
Originally drafted by Portland 86th overall in the 2011 WHL Bantam Draft, Skapski spent the 2011-12 season with the Fraser Valley Bruins in the BC Major Midget League. With the Bruins, Skapski put up 49 points (26g-23a) and 86 penalty minutes over 40 games played.
Skapski will join the Royals on their current two-game road trip which sees the club visit the Tri-City Americans tomorrow night. The puck drops at 7:05 p.m. Friday night in Kennewick before the team travels to Spokane for a date with the Chiefs on Saturday night.
