Stamps’ Deacon named RBC Player of Month

Mitch Deacon of the Swan Valley Stampeders has been named the RBC Player of the Month for September.

The 20-year-old forward from Port Moody, B.C., sits atop the MJHL scoring race with 15 points (4-11) in six games for the Stampeders, who are .500 after six games. Deacon and his teammates will be in Winnipeg for the 10th annual Old Dutch/MJHL Showcase Weekend which begins Thursday at the MTS Iceplex.

The runners up are 20 year old forward Justin Augert of the Steinbach Pistons and 20 year old forward Max Flanagan of the Swan Valley Stampeders.

Sher-Wood Hockey Defenseman of the Month

Justin Baudry of the Steinbach Pistons was named the Sher-Wood defenceman of the month. The second-year blueliner recorded six points (1-5) in five games for the defending MJHL champions. Baudry, 17, hails from La Broquerie and has committed to play for the University of Bemidji.

The runners up are 19 year old Carey Morrison of the Selkirk Steelers and 20 year old Tanner Butler of the Dauphin Kings.

MGEU Goaltender of the Month

Nicholas Deery has been a major reason the Steinbach Pistons posted an unblemished record after five starts this season. The 19-year-old American goaltender from La Crosse, WI., was perfect with three wins and a GAA of 1.67.

The runners up are 20 year old Adam Iwan of the Virden Oil Capitals and 19 year old Brian Archibald of the Dauphin Kings.


IBAM Rookie of the Month

Carter Johnson of the Swan Valley Stampeders was named top freshman for September. The 18-year-old forward from Gimli is off to a hot start with nine points (4-5) in six games. He also leads the MJHL’s rookie scoring race.

The runners up are 18 year old forward Shawn Bowles of the Portage Terriers and 18 year old goaltender Scott Parsons of the Winnipeg Blues.
