Storm’s Kosmachuk OHL Player of the Week

Toronto, ON – The Ontario Hockey League today announced that Winnipeg Jets prospect Scott Kosmachuk of the Guelph Storm is the OHL Player of the Week for the week ending October 20 after scoring six goals and three assists for nine points in three games with a plus-minus rating of plus-8.

Kosmachuk’s offensive outburst led the Storm to three straight wins last week moving the club into second place in the Midwest Division standings with a 9-3-0-0 record.  His top performance of the week came on Sunday afternoon against the Ottawa 67’s where he scored a career-high four goals including the game-winner.  He also added one assist in the contest for a career-best five-point game and was named first star of the 7-3 victory.  Kosmachuk also received a pair of third star honours earlier in the week including Thursday night scoring the game-winning goal plus an assist in the Storm’s 3-2 win over the Windsor Spitfires, then picked up a goal and an assist Friday night in a 5-4 shootout win over the Niagara IceDogs.

Kosmachuk, a 19-year-old from Toronto, ON, is playing in his fourth OHL season with the Storm.  Currently tied for fifth in league scoring, the 2012 third round selection of the Winnipeg Jets has 12 goals and nine assists for 21 points in 12 games after recording 65 points in 68 games last season.

Honourable mention this week goes to Carolina Hurricanes prospect Sergey Tolchinsky of the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds who scored four goals and four assists for eight points in three games, and Detroit Red Wings prospect Zach Nastasiuk of the Owen Sound Attack who scored four goals and three assists for seven points in two games.  In goal, Hurricanes prospect Daniel Altshuller of the Oshawa Generals went 2-0-0-1 with a goals-against-average of 1.91 and save percentage of .949.
