Blades partner with Lung Association of Saskatchewan

Press Release

The Lung Association of Saskatchewan along with The Saskatoon Blades and The Regina Pats are inspiring everyone to love their lungs.  Players from both teams will be visiting elementary schools to talk about lung health while asking students to pledge to be tobacco-free and encouraging all Saskatchewan residents to take part in the Lung Health Challenge.

The Blades and the Pats will be battling it out to see which fans can exercise their lungs the most from November 18, 2013 to January 18, 2014. The team that wins will be named WHL Lung Health Champions at a home game in February!  Anyone can enter to support their team, either by themselves, as a classroom, group or family.  Here’s how:

Get Active! Walk, run, toboggan or shovel snow. All physical activity counts!
Submit the total minutes you exercised your lungs on www.gotlungs.ca
Win! Participants will WIN prizes (Pats and Blades tickets, team merchandise and fun giveaways).  Watch the website which will display a leader board to see who is in the lead. Of course, the team who’s fans exercise their lungs the most will win bragging rights and be the official Lung Health Champions!

Three players from The Regina Pats; Carter Hansen, Braden Christoffer and Dryden Hunt along with four players from The Saskatoon Blades; Collin Valcourt, Nathan Burns, Alex Moodie and Brett Stovin are taking part in the campaign. “These players are role models to many youth in our province. We are excited for these young athletes to educate and empower others to protect their lungs,” says Jill Hubick, Health Promotion Coordinator from The Lung Association of Saskatchewan.

Cody Nickolet, Saskatoon Blades Manager of Communications and Community Relations feels that spreading the message about healthy lungs and healthy choices is important and ultimately effective when it comes from high-calibre athletes such as the player's from his hockey club.  Nickolet states that the Blades are “extremely pleased to be partnered up with the Lung Association of Saskatchewan for this great initiative.”

Regina Pat’s Account Executive Matt Miller is enthusiastic about friendly competition between the two cities.  Miller says he “hopes that this challenge will inspire people from all over our province to take part and exercise their lungs.”
