SASKATOON BLADES: Unveil Vintage Sweaters

Press Release to see the jersey

The young Blades took the time to sport some historic uniforms on Tuesday in Saskatoon.

The Blades unveiled their vintage jerseys, which will be worn this Friday, November 1st when the team meets the Swift Current Broncos at the Credit Union Centre.  The jerseys are replicas of the original Saskatoon Blades jerseys, the first ones worn by the team after becoming the Blades.

"These look like some of my favourite jerseys that we've worn so far," said third-year Blade Brett Stovin.  "They're the first ones that the Blades ever wore so it's definitely special for the organization, and I'm excited to be wearing them out on the ice this weekend."

As far as the actual makeup of the jersey, Stovin says the feel is excellent.

"Some of the jerseys we've had have been heavier, thicker and hotter on the ice.  But these are thinner, lighter to wear and they should be cooler for us on the ice."

The jerseys are white with blue and yellow trim.  They feature blue lettering across the front and a Kinsmen Club of Saskatoon patch on one shoulder.  The jerseys will be auctioned off to fans during the game, with proceeds going to the Kinsmen Club.

"We love the look of these jerseys," said Team President Steve Hogle. "The letters and numbers across the front, it's totally oldschool. It's just a great way to give a shoutout to the past, the shoutout it deserves.  Having these young guys wearing it, it's a great way of honouring our past and looking ahead to the future."

The game on November 1st also marks an extremely special night for our home rink, as it's the 1000th Saskatoon Blades game to be played at the Credit Union Centre.  The retro-themed night will be made complete by several vintage elements including music and fun trivia for the fans.

The Blades will also bring back an old intermission game that night as Chuck-A-Puck returns!  This time, it takes a special twist as the winner of the event will take home a pair of tickets to the upcoming Kinsmen Sports Celebrity Dinner featuring living-legend Bobby Orr!
