Three OHL Officials named to 2013-14 IIHF Events

CALGARY, Alta. – Nine Canadian officials from the Canadian Hockey League have been assigned by the International Ice Hockey Federation to work at five different IIHF events during the 2013-14 season. All nine officials are products of the Hockey Canada Officiating Program.

The officials for the 2014 Olympic Winter Games will be announced Dec. 1.

In addition, two WHL referees, Matt Kirk (Vancouver, B.C.) and Derek Zalaski (Edmonton, Alta.), and three linesmen, Chris Carlson (Edmonton, Alta.), and Justin Hull (Burnaby, B.C.) from the WHL, and Jesse Wilmot (Hamilton, Ont.) from the OHL, are on the long list to officiate at the 2014 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship next May in Minsk, Belarus. A final list of officials for that event will be announced in March 2014.

The Hockey Canada Officiating Program (HCOP) is for anyone interested in officiating the game of hockey, from beginners to seasoned veterans. There are six levels in the HCOP, from those looking to get started to the top tier of officials.
