Thunderbirds’ Horodziejczyk named Gongshow Gear player of the month

SUDBURY – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Friday that Soo Thunderbirds goaltender Joel Horodziejczyk has been named the Gongshow Gear Inc. player of the month for October.
In seven starts during that month that was the 18-year-old Sudbury native was a perfect 7-0 while registering a stingy 0.86 goals-against average along with an equally impressive .964 save percentage.

He also posted two shutouts helping the Thunderbirds vault to the top of the league standings and crack the top five in the Canadian Junior Hockey League top 20 rankings where Sault Ste. Marie currently sits fourth overall nationally.

Horodzieczyk, also just returned from representing the NOJHL at the Canada East World Jr. A Challenge selection camp in Oakville, Ont.

The T-Birds stopper enters November topping all netminders in the league both average and save mark at 1.75 and .932 respectively.

Horodziejczyk will be recognized at a future game for his on-ice efforts and will be presented his monthly award courtesy of Gongshow Gear Inc.

Honourable mention for October’s NOJHL’s Gongshow Gear player of the month laurels went to Espanola Rivermen forward Brandon Janke and Abitibi Eskimos forwards Erik Robichaud.
