Barrie, ON- The Barrie Colts have announced today that they have completed a trade with the Belleville Bulls.
The Barrie Colts obtain centreman Garrett Hooey and Belleville’s 5th round pick in 2016.
In exchange the Colts send to the Belleville Bulls, defenceman Alex Yuill.
Alex Yuill was selected by the Barrie Colts in the 1st round (22nd overall) in 2011. He has appeared in 140 games for the Colts over a span of three seasons collecting 4 goals, 16 assists for 20 points. The 5’8” 170lbs defenceman will now get a chance to suit up for his hometown team as he grew up near Belleville in Wellington, Ontario.
“It was a difficult decision giving up a player like Alex Yuill that has plenty of quality time left in the league, but bringing in Garrett Hooey will help this hockey club with grit and tenacity up front,” said Colts General Manager Jason Ford.
Garrett Hooey is a 6’1”, 195lbs centreman who was originally drafted by the Sarnia Sting in the 2nd round (23rd overall) in 2010.
“Hooey is starting to come into his own this season and has chipped in on the offense as well. We see him as a quality two-way centre that will add experience and character to the lineup,” added Ford.
Hooey is having a career year and leaves the Belleville Bulls as their leading scorer. In 29 games this season the Hampton, Ontario native has registered 16 goals and 11 assists for 27 points. In 2010-11 Hooey suited up for Team Ontario at the WHC U-17 tournament winning a gold medal.
In 227 career OHL games Hooey has 45 goals and 41 assists for 86 points while tallying 225 PIMS.
